Central District Conference is an affiliation of 52 congregations
from Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Georgia and
Virginia. Twenty of our congregations are also affiliated with
Illinois Mennonite Conference, Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Conference
and Ohio Conference of Mennonite Church USA. Two of our congregations
are affiliated with the Church of the Brethren. We currently have one congregation, Milwaukee Mennonite Church, that has applied for membership and two
emerging congregations, Asian Mennonite Community Church located in
Lombard, Illinois, and Hively Jesus Village Church located in Elkhart,
Indiana. We are one of 21 conferences that make up Mennonite Church USA, which was formed in 2002 by the merger of the General Conference Mennonite Church and the Mennonite Church.
Central
District Conference came into being when two member conferences of the
General Conference Mennonite Church, Middle District and Central
Conference, integrated in 1957. The vision and mission of the conference is led by a Board of Directors composed of six members, a Ministerial Committee composed of six members, and a Missional Church Committee composed of nine members. The Camp Friedenswald Board oversees the operations of our conference camp, Camp Friedenswald. The Stewardship Committee gives leadership to financial matters of the conference and the Gifts Discernment Committee is active in seeking out persons with gifts that can be shared on conference committees and boards. The Annual Meeting Program Committee plans for our annual meeting held the fourth weekend of June each year. Our Historian
relates to the archival system of Central District and Mennonite Church
USA. The Board President, Conference Minister, and a Member-at-Large
serve as representatives to the Constituency Leaders Council,
which functions as a council of denominational elders to advise the
Executive Leadership and the Delegate Assembly of Mennonite Church USA
on issues relative to faith and life.
In addition to our committees, representatives on our auxiliary groups, Mennonite Men and Mennonite Women serve as links to the denominational organizations of Mennonite Men and Mennonite Women. The Bluffton University Women's Council connects with Bluffton University. Central District appoints representatives to the Bluffton University Board of Trustees, Chicago Mennonite Learning Center, Adriel School, and Mennonite Central Committee Great Lakes Board.
The conference office is located in Goshen, Indiana and is the home base for our Conference Minister and Administrator. The Editors of our publications, The Reporter and
focus , are located in Bluffton, Ohio. These persons serve as staff to our Board of Directors, committees, congregations, pastors and credentialed ministers. |
